Her parents are Dennis Alan Taylor an ex-banker and Jennifer Marina Joy psychologist. Her father is an Argentine with Scottish and English heritage. Her mother comes from Spanish and English roots. Taylor-Joy is the youngest of five children. Four of them are of her father's previous marriage. They lived at Buenos Aires until she was 6 years old. They then moved to the Victoria part of London. Taylor-Joy stated that the transfer was difficult, and she was unable to go back to school in English because she hoped to return to Argentina. She had to switch schools from Northlands in order to attend Hill House. Then she attended Queen's Gate School where she took ballet classes and acted in school productions. When she was 16 she left school to pursue a full-time career in acting. Taylor-Joy was a child actress that knew she was going to become an actor. The realization of her dreams came after Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm Management offered her a modelling job.
